What is Computer RAM and Its Functions?
Introduction
Random Access Memory (RAM) is a fundamental component of any computer system, holding data and instructions while a computer is on. Unlike a hard drive or SSD, RAM is volatile; the data stored there are lost once the computer is turned off. The speed and the capacity of RAM are some of the factors that will show the form of performance a computer has.
Functions of RAM
1. Transient Data Storage
RAM contains data and instructions accessible to the CPU to immediately act upon. It presents a form of temporary storage with easier access to data than does HDDs or SSDs.
2. Faster Response from a System and Processing
The easy access of data enables the CPU to complete operations with less latency. A larger RAM enables multi-tasking to be done smoothly and applications to be executed more rapidly.
3. Multi-tasking End
Computers run several programs at the same time, whether it is web browsing, media streaming, or the office suite of applications. With RAM, running applications will no longer be marked by lag…
